Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Helps Manufacturing Students Go to School

HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) – Officials at Henderson Community College say every manufacturing program in the school is eligible for free tuition through the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship.

“It’s a lot easier when you don’t have to worry about the money,” said Italia Blasser, a fellow.

The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship offers up to 60 hours of instruction to eligible students.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must live in Kentucky and not have an associate’s degree or above. Students must also have a high school diploma or work on obtaining a GED.

“The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship is automatic if you are a resident of Kentucky,” said Katelyn Hopman, public relations coordinator for Henderson Community College. “And you meet the requirements that are not already to have a degree. As long as you apply and meet the requirements, you are accepted into the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship.

Blasser says she always knew she wanted to be an engineer, and the scholarship helped her achieve that.

“Knowing that these companies are watching me, ready to grab me, people are already making offers to me,” Blasser said. “It’s good to know that what I’m doing is worthwhile. I will have a future in this.

Officials say the school has more than 15 advanced manufacturing partners to help students find jobs.
