Evangel University Advocates, formerly known as the Auxiliary, gear up for their annual colossal sale to raise money for scholarships and academic projects.
The sale will take place May 18-21 at the Mabee Fitness Center on the northwest side of Evangel’s campus.
The Advocates, made up of alumni and supporters, will accept donations from the public for the sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 10-12. Items can be dropped off at the Mabee Fitness Center.
“Since Evangel’s founding in 1955, members of EU Advocates have provided consistent support to the university by volunteering their time and talents,” said Michael Kolstad, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff of the EU, in a press release.
“Their first efforts provided curtains and furniture in the dorms for our very first group of students.”
Items for sale include clothing, small appliances, jewelry, books, office supplies, furniture, toys, and other household items.
The annual fundraiser began in 1964 and was discontinued in 2014. It was revived in 2019 after an influx of young members.
In addition to scholarships, major projects funded by the Advocates include the Riggs Hall Heritage Room, the Schantz Grand Pipe Organ at Spence Chapel, the fit-out of the second and third floor lobbies at Trask Hall, lighting and stage curtains from the Barnett Fine Arts Theatre, uniforms for the Evangel Band and new cameras for the communications department.
The Colossal Sale will be open to the public at the following times:
- 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 18, 19 and 20
- 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. May 21
Friday is a half-price day where all items except furniture will be 50% off. Saturday is the bag sale, where shoppers can fill a bag provided for $6.
